More wisdom from Joseph Ratzinger (Benedict XVI)

Having dominion over nature, in the sense of the biblical story of creation, does not mean the violent utilization of nature but rather the understanding of its intrinsic possibilities, and thus it requires that careful form of utilization in which man places himself at the service of nature and nature at the service of man.

—Joseph Ratzinger (Benedict XVI)

from his book, Western Culture Today and Tomorrow

TIMELY OBSERVATION

Formerly titled Europe Today and Tomorrow, this book includes some of Joseph Ratzinger’s keen insights about the social and political challenges confronting modern Western societies. Writing most of these chapters just before his election as pope, Ratzinger sought to remind Europeans, who at the time were crafting a new constitution, that the civilizational project we call “the West” is a cultural achievement with a history.
